Observe foliage as well as flowers
The white structure commonly called a peace lily flower is a spathe held above the leaves. RHS guidance notes that plants in deeper shade may grow slowly and rarely flower. Count new leaves and examine their condition before describing a flowerless plant as a failure. Record its botanical identity and the location where you keep it. A nursery specimen in full display and a plant adjusting to your home are not necessarily at the same stage.
Ask what the position provides
Compare the actual light with the plant’s requirements and consider whether nearby furnishings or curtains reduce it. Avoid treating extra fertilizer as an automatic flowering switch. If a more suitable position is available, introduce an appropriate change and record it. Keep the plant accessible for drainage checks and away from children or animals that might chew it; peace lilies are harmful if eaten. A healthy display starts with a location that works for the household too.
Choose a longer observation window
Photograph the same view periodically and note new growth rather than evaluating the plant every time you pass it. Existing flowers will finish, and their decline does not by itself describe the roots or the next growing cycle. Follow species-specific care for spent stems and feeding. Decide what evidence would justify further investigation, such as persistent deterioration in new leaves. That is a clearer threshold than simply wanting the plant to look like its shop label.
