Plan the journey as well as the purchase
A plant may spend only a short time outdoors between a warm shop and a warm room, yet that interval still matters for tender foliage. RHS peace-lily guidance specifically advises protection from cold during transport. Ask the retailer how to protect the species you are buying. Check the route, weather and other stops before collecting a large plant. A car full of groceries may leave no stable space for the pot you admired.
Support the container without crushing growth
Use an upright, stable arrangement appropriate to the plant’s size. Keep wrapping from pressing fragile stems into an unnatural shape and make sure you can carry the weight safely. Avoid transporting the pot where it can tip into passengers or interfere with driving. If the plant is very large, arrange suitable help or delivery. Measure the doorways and lift route at home before you commit to a specimen that cannot pass through them comfortably.
Unpack with a clear landing place
Have a suitable temporary observation position ready. Remove transport packaging carefully and examine the plant before discarding the label. Photograph any damage you need to discuss with the seller, and preserve the purchase information. Do not interpret every bent leaf as a long-term care problem or immediately repot merely because the trip was awkward. Let the arrival inspection establish what condition the plant is in and which next action, if any, is actually justified.
